Want a 0% card but they don't offer me enough to cover my balance!

Hey folks!

So I'm trying to get a 0% balance transfer, but the card companies only seem to offer me £1200 when I need to transfer £3600.

I've already applied for one, putting in the amount I need to transfer, and they accepted my application but only offered me the lower amount, so I don't want to apply like crazy and screw my rating.

Is it better to call the companies up direct, or is there a company which offers slightly higher amounts as a balance transfers?

Fed up paying shocking interest on this card and not seeing the balance decrease at a rate I'd like.

one of the things i was going to suggest was that you apply over the phone, and also that you inform them of the balance you want to transfer--as getting a human to understand that can help.

who is the debt with? and who have you applied to? my first thoughts as places to move the debt to would be MBNA and Barclaycard--so hopefully it isn't with either of them at this point.

It is with barclaycard. I think I have an MBNA card already so I may give them a call and see if I can do a deal.

I got a MBNA card only a couple of months ago. I haven't even come to the end of BT offer expiry, they are already offering further deals. Check them out first.

Are you confusing the £1200 illustrative examples with the credit limit?

Nope. Those illustrative examples are all they have offered me. Or possibly it was slightly higher. It certainly wasn't even half of what I need.

Think I'll give MBNA a shout in a bit :)

I had about 18K I wanted to shift to 0%, so I just opened 4 or 5 (over the space of a few months not all at once).

    The credit limits vary massively.
I only got £2000 with Lloyds, but then got £5100 with Tesco.

Who did you apply with? Tesco are a good one at the moment with the 34 months offer (but see all the threads about duplicate balance transfers... DON'T do a manual one when you think the applied one has failed as it only happens once you activate the card).

Another tip is to apply for credit cards with companies you already have an account with for something else.
I had a Nationwide mortgage, and Halifax savings account. Got good credit limits on their cards when I applied (£8000 and £5000).

accept what is offered, 1200 at 0% is a lot better than 1,200 at lot and then apply for a second one
    simple
