BEDFORD Insurance

I have been extremely stupid and bought home/contents insurance through BEDFORD Insurance. I paid on line yesterday and my cover doesnt start until the end of the month. However, now that ive read all the negative comments about this firm I rang up to cancel the policy. I got an extremely rude male on the phone who spoke to me very rudely and abrupt. He said that id wasted their time and to cancel in writing, he then hung up on me. Where do I stand?? Will they take the money out of my acount ASAP or at the end of the month when my policy starts? I paid the whole amount.

    Check the terms and conditions of the policy, as there should be a cooling off period of 14 days in which you are legally allowed to cancel the policy for a full refund. The insurer has to process this within a reasonable timescale (usually 5 working days), so send a recorded delivery letter to them advising them that you wish to cancel the policy and want their written confirmation it has been done, track the letter and give them a week to deal with it before phoning them to chase.

    Unfortunately for you, they can take the payment as soon as you give them your card details.

  • Thanks very much for your advice. Up to now, they havent taken any money from my account and ive cancelled the card just as a precaution. I am still waiting for the paperwork to arrive.
