Am currently in process of changing jobs and need to buy a laptop which will be suitable to run Autocad 2006 (preferably with Windows XP as i believe there are a lot of compatibility issues). Any advice on suitable laptops or specs i needs to look for would be appreciated. I have a maximum of £500 to spend and at the moment only need to run the 2D version of autocad.

I have a friend who's an architect and he has a Sony Vaio running XP HOME, to run his autocad, I should think any decent spec PC running XP home or XP professional would be quite happy running this application. Hth. Alan.Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .0

I have run Autocad 2006 on a laptop with a 1Ghz Pentium M and 1G of RAM and it runs fine, though noticeably slower than the main PC I use. Expect it to get sluggish if you move on to complex 3d models.
I'm not sure if AutoCAD LT would offer better performance if you only need 2D, as AFAIK a lot of the 'heavyweight' stuff is still there, just disabled.
I would aim for lots of RAM and the biggest screen you can find, even if it means buying a slightly slower processor to stay in your budget.0
