The quickest time you have been notified as Unsuccessful?

In 2015 - My record now stands at 24 hours after having interview - so, so glad I didn't pull a sickie or land myself an exit interview for that matter, while grateful to hear back so soon imagine getting that dreaded email as quick as that!

Though I have had a lot quicker with another company I really want to work for - 3 hours back in 2013 when I was then unemployed, then I returned to company as employed one nearly 18 months later when I got to wait 5 days before I was unsuccessful so I felt I was getting warmer! third time lucky maybe!!! if they post any jobs lol!
I got to hope :)

I've been to a few interviews where it's become apparent during the meeting that the job or the culture is not going to be right for me or vice versa. We always end things amicably and without either side actually spelling it out, but my experience is that you know right away unless the issue is that there are other candidates - in which case you have to wait until the whole lot of you have gone through however-many stages and they finally feel they can make a decision, which can take weeks if there are technical tests and several sets of bosses to meet.

Having interviewed other people, it is a matter of honour for me that I let them know the same day if I possibly can. This is because having been on the other side of the fence, I know how it feels to not hear and be wondering....

I've been to an open type interview today and while I was sat down they were fine enough but when I stood up on my crutches I saw one manager turn round to his colleague, look at me and mutter something. I'm guessing that means I won't be getting any further. I've had some blatant remarks in my time so I'm not as bothered as I used to be...

#Whilst having the telephone interview when she said "Oh I didn't realise you were unemplyed" then said "we will be in touch" phone put down.

Or within 5 mins of leaving the actual 2nd interview - I called the agency and was told the client had already called them
  • Years ago I went for an interview through a temping agency at 5pm - got home and the phone was going and I was offered the job. I wasn't even sure if I wanted it but the guy persuaded me. I only stayed a month or so I hated it.
  • I went to an interview for an admin post at a Housing Association, was told within 24hrs that I wasn't successful. I've been out of work for a few months now. Despite many knock backs I've secured a role to start at the end of the month.

30 minutes is my record informing me I hadn't been successful, although that was no great surprise nor great issue for me. During the interview I had been asked my age to which the reply came "oh, that's higher rate minimum wage" & asked 3 times in a 2 minute interview if I was a smoker. On the third occasion I politely said I'd answered that question already & that I was extremely unlikely to change it in 60 seconds far less likely given I've already had cancer.

Needless to say said business shortly went into administration.

Not actually post interview but I think it was about 3 minutes after submitting an online application.
A return email said something along the lines of "after careful consideration, we will not be progressing your application " ..

Maybe it was a particularly bad application but how on earth could my application have been carefully considered after only a couple minutes?

After interviews for a definite no I would inform HR within 30 minutes or so assuming I dont have a following meeting. How long it takes them to inform the agent and the agent to inform the candidate is out of my control.

These days its not that uncommon for no response to be given and the silence should be taken as a no.

That's certainly what I've been finding from my direct applications (via personal network rather than using an agent). If they don't want to see me for interview I get a brief e-mail thanking me for my interest, but if it gets to interview stage it seems that the "don't bother to follow it up and hope she takes the hint" rejection method is standard.

Like I said above though, it's always been clear at the interview if things aren't going to work - so far I've not been in a situation where I'm seriously waiting to hear whether they want to take things further because I have no idea how it went.

It sounds as if there's a massive difference in treatment between the various types of work there are out there. I keep reading stuff on line which talks about sending hand-written notes to thank the interviewer for their time etc, which seems pointless bordering on deluded to me but it clearly works in some types of recruitment process.
