My personal record was about 3 hours after the interview. This was in year 2000. My CV took about 3 months to reach them (due to it being in the wrong department). I was unemployed and planning to migrate to UK anyway. However after the interview, we went shopping and as soon as we came home the phone rang and the employer asked me when I can join. I worked for 8 years there before ending up in UK.

On the other side, when we have applicants coming in for interview, we usually tell them when we are going to make our decision, if we have any further interviews on the day or coming days.

  • Where i work, the preferred candidate is always called first- job offered. Depending on how long it takes to get hold of them/how long it takes for them to accept the job- depends on how long the unsuccessful candidates get the "sorry" call and interview feedback.

The interviewees are given a time frame for the call- told others are being interviewed and a decision will be made by *date*

The successful candidate is the one that scores the most points at interview combined with application. Set questions and scoring system to ensure its fair. 3 people on the interview panel, each scoring and scores kept private until the end of the whole interview process is completed- then scores added up to determine the successful candidate.

Preferred candidate is then subject to references and DBS before formal offer is given and start date set.

My quickest rejection was 10 minutes into the interview. Though I knew it was coming as I'd realised it was a MLM scam and flat-out told the interviewer he was wasting my time and should reimburse me for it.

For me it was 15 minutes after attending the interview and got the news from the recruitment consultant driving back home.

I know we all like to know ASAP but I thought this was a bit disrespectful as they knew I would be driving back. Could have waited until at least I got back home and another reason why In general I hate these moronic recruitment agents.

I've done a couple of interviews where it was obvious within minutes that the candidate wasn't suitable, and we've ended it there.

I've also had one or two where I've had the call back and I've said it wasn't for me.
  • My fastest job offer came as I was on the bus travelling home from the interview!

Fastest? 30 minutes after the interview. Personal phone call from the head interviewer (rather than HR - though an email from HR came days later).

"look want to let you know, you represented yourself very well. Only reason you are not getting the job, is because we have a candidate with exact project experience. Please don't be put from applying for any future positions here".

Fastest offer? Not so much an offer, but an email asking to chase up one of my referees who'd not submitted my reference yet. I got this email ten minutes after the interview. Phone call the next morning at 10am offering me the job.
