transfer Microsoft Office Outlook to Outlook Express

Can someone help, I'm trying to transfer emails from one pc to another, the old pc, uses microsoft office outlook, whilst the new pc has outlook express. I've followed instruction from the internet on saving the data files from office outlook, but they don't appear to be compatible with outlook express.

I'd have though they would be compatible due to both being microsoft, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

If anyone knows if I'm wrong and they are compatible, could someone tell me how.

Cheers:confused:

If you have exported your Outlook messages correctly, they should import into Outlook Express.

If you have access to your old pc then you could download mozilla thunderbird, install it on both pcs. On the old pc import the email accounts form outlook, copy your thunderbird profile to your new pc and finally (and for me personally, most importantly) uninstall outlook express.

Crox... that didn't answer their question. If somebody on the motoring board asking how to do an oil change on a Ford Escort would you tell them to buy a Vectra because you don't like Ford?

    Now for a useful answer.

been a while since i had to do it but..... from what i remember it needs to be able to recognise the file format. If you've not got Microsoft Office on the second PC then it won't know what a pst file is (outlook email format).
Try configuring Outlook Express on PC1 with an email account, import the emails from Outlook to Outlook Express to convert them from a .pst to .dbx files. If Outlook Express is configured on PC 2 then do a search for *.dbx and it'll tell you where the files are located. Navigate to this folder through explorer and replace with the new .dbx files from PC 1.
Personally i'd create a folder called 'email' in My Documents and copy the .dbx files into there and then go into Outlook express > tools > maintenance (i think) and change the folder location to the My documents\email folder you just created as it makes it easier to back up all your files in 1 go. Quite often as email isn't stored in My Documents you can forget them when doing a backup.

Thanks for that, (liked the car bit)

I'd had a blond moment and didn't think to install express to pc2, done that and it's transfered over straight away.

    Ta for your help

I know it wasn't what she asked, but it's still very good advice and I stand by it.
