There is NO TAX DEDUCTED at source on dividend payments. Tax may have been paid on the company's profits, but that happens whether or not the dividends are distributed.
The 10% tax credit is 10% of 10/9 of the dividend. and so exactly represents the amount HMRC notionally ADDED to the dividend, before taking it away again.
So base rate tax payers don't pay tax on dividends in an ISA - or out of one, so they don't save tax either.
Even the MSE guide to S&S ISAs repeats this myth that share ISAs are not tax free.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
So if we discount structured products are there any low cost providers who allow small one-off payments without charging the earth and offer Vanguard or similar?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I'm with charles stanley for my own s+s isa, for simplicity was going to move boys account to their jisa which I think is charged at 0.25% (same as adult isa).Left is never right but I always am.0 -
I stand corrected, but in my defence I did a quick search to check my "facts" which was incorrectly confirmed by an article in the Telegraph.0
