Increasing existing credit....does it affect credit history?

Hi all,

I know about the impact of applying for new credit through cards or loans but does increasing the amount on an existing card touch your credit file? So I've got a card with a £1,000 limit, if I request it increased to £1,250 and it's granted, does this still count as a search/application on my credit file?

Same question for opening a bank account, will opening a new account count as a search/application?

many thanks, Andy.

Depends on whether the company does a search before increasing the limit.

The increased limit itself would certainly show.

Thanks zx81, I guess that was my question, do you know if they routinely do searches when requesting increases or is it hit and miss/unknown?
