    Sorry to hear that Suzie-queue.
Just by way of warning, the first friend with squirrels in the loft was mostly driven nuts by the noise of the little blighters doing whatever squirrels do at 4.30 a.m.
The second person discovered the problem when water came through the bedroom ceiling. it turned out not to be the dodgy flashing as first thought but a squirrel having chewed through a length of plastic water pipe, insurance claim ensued.
I'll see the second 'victim' tomorrow and see if he has any further advice.
  • Shammyjack is right I am afraid.
Get a local pest control guy in & get them removed.
NOT Rentokill etc but a local one man band.
He will either shoot them on site if safe to do so or
trap them live then eeerrrrmmm dispose of them.
You are wasting time & money messing about blocking holes up
    I am afraid.
You are also wasting your time messing about withe the council...!!!
If you give your rough location somebody may be able to recommend
    A pest control guy.
    HTH

Have had pest control from council - caught squirrel trapped in loft after earlier repair - they've been prompt & efficient. My beef is with tree department's lack of urgency to even carry out survey of situation, let alone deal with the fact that THEIR trees give squirrels access to daughter's property and then cause damage that SHE has to pay for :-/

We had the same problem last year.
First of all we moved things away from the entry point. Then we liberally spread chilli powder, yes, chilli powder.... big bag from Tesco about £1.20 ish. Really sprinkled it on the whole area and round the entry hole. The blighters do not like chilli.... they eat with their "hands" and we all know that chilli powder on our hands, burns!!!

They want to make a nest up there. They will come in at dusk to roost and make a nest. If you are up there at dusk, sitting around in the chilli;) with a torch and making a noise, they will be detered.

We then put metal plates on the soffit boards. So far none this year, nor the end of last season.
We trapped and disposed of 13 squirrels. We laid the trap at the base of the fence where they started their run up the wall and into the soffit, which had been damaged by birds and then enlarged by the squirrels. The chilli is still up in the soffit, but no squirrels,,,,yet.

I hope you ate them and did not waste the meat ! The saving on the meat bill would have paid for the chilli and the metal plates .

Still favour the shoot and eat remedy !

    Hi Susie,

Have a read of my story in this link.

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adderton/squirrels.htm

I feel your pain, it's a bigger problem than people might think. The ONLY solution is to trap and kill. Forget trees, proofing, poison, sonics, etc.

Hope my story cheers you up :D

i thought that it was illegal to release them back into the wild?
