Format error on Sony memory stick

Hi,

When I try to use my Sony memory stick pro it comes up with a format error, trying to format it using the camera won't work and it cannot be formatted fully when connected to the computer, although it appears to get most of the way.

What I don't understand is that it has been like this for a while but it has been known to work fine, then it won't work again.

Any ideas?

Dirty contacts?

Thanks Espresso, I think this could be the problem, having given them a wipe it worked, now its not again. Whats the best way of cleaning them?

Ideally some contact cleaner on a cotton bud but you may get away giving a good rub without.

I haven't got any contact clearner but I did try the cotton bud without, it must have helped a little as its working on and off.
