ok, we just got our statement from npower. we pay fortnightly on a card. the statement says £83.05 left to pay and includes a payment slip. do we have to pay this on top of the fortnightly payments we pay?
they have kept our payments the same. why didnt they just increase them if the payments from the previous period didnt cover the usage?

A statement is not a demand for payment.
It would need to be an invoice (often called a bill) or other form of formal demand to expect a payment to be made.0 -
thanks, so is it a dodgy tactic to scare people into paying money they dont have to? you must admit it would fool alot of people having it say left to pay and then including a payment slip with the left to pay amount inserted.
they used to just say either debit or credit not left to pay.0 -
No it is not. Suppliers can't win, can they? You would prefer they just wait until your instalments are increased by £12.80 a fortnight? Or leave it even longer for an even higher increase? Would you prefer the instalment is changed each and every three months?
It is up to you. Either keep on top of your account or just leave it to end up with higher payments. Remember any eventual weekly catch-up will be twice what you may expect - not just the arrears but also the same again to assume the new ongoing usage.0 -
i dont have an issue with them giving the option to pay the excess. the issue is they dont make it clear that you dont have to. how many people must go and pay when they dont have to just because they think they are required to.No it is not. No
It'sa document setting out items of debit and credit between a bank or other organization and a customer.
You'd be moaning they were not keeping you informed if they didn't send it0 -

this is simple it saying left to pay and including a payment slip with that amount inserted can give the impression it has to be paid. i came here for help and not to be attacked by what must be npower employees. arent they supposed to have been made simpler to understand? so why are they harder to understand compared to before?0

When you pay a fixed amount, you can expect to fall behind, slightly in high consumption months, then get ahead during low ones.
They have merely stated that, at the moment you are behind (expectedly as it is winter ) and the payment slip is there should you wish to catch up immediately.0 -
yeah, i know. our account has been in debit before. the change in wording is bad. they should return to how it was. When you pay a fixed amount, you can expect to fall behind, slightly in high consumption months, then get ahead during low ones.
