Car Buying

We are wanting to buy a little car - minimum road tax etc but am just struggling to get head round the best way to do it.
We have £2000 cash available plus £3000 on a 0% credit card over 19 months which is fine. We have seen a little Ford Ka, 3 years old that we could buy outright (husband not keen on Ka' s but hay ho!) or should we be looking at the dealerships who offer a down payment followed by a monthly payment for so many years then hand it back or pay a final amount (which wouldn't be happening!) which also fits into our financial criteria and practically the same amount of money being spent over time.
Which would be the savvy way to go do you think? Thanks.

You have £2000 cash, Why not buy a £2000 car and know that you own it and no more payments to be made on it?

Lupo SDI. £30 tax. Super reliable diesel engine. Awesome economy. Can be had for under £2000. Volkswagen build quality.

...Volkswagen build quality...
To be fair, the Lupo isn't too bad, but look at this list for the passat!

Ford KA were prone to corrosion, if I was determined to buy one I would have a read of one of the KA forums first.0
