    Hi,

    I have balance issues... I wooble standing on both legs let alone 1!! :rotfl:

    I was talking to a family member earlier who has been diagnosed with parkinsons and is having physio to try and slow some of the symptoms. they were advised when standing at a counter eg waiting for the kettle to boil to slowly raise onto there tip toes and then slowly back down (without just dropping heavily down) then moving to standing on one leg without the other touching it and repeating. I tried this morning and just about get my heel off the floor when doing it with one leg :eek: even then I was very very wooblerly!!!

    I've started doing some Thi Chi slowly building on there moves. I also dont have a lot of coordination when my arms and legs are moving at the same time I have to do a couple of reps extra to make sure I have one of the moves before I start putting in the other body moves. I'm blaming my dyslexia and probable dyspraxia.

    Depending on what the GP says if you go and if you want to put some money up you can get some balance things that you sit on to build core strength which can also help with balance

    Good Luck, if you find anything that works let me know as I am a cluts!!!! lol

    xx
    Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada :beer: :dance:

    Thanks sazaccount, very useful. GP says my ears are ok. He also said our balance gets worse with age - I'm nearly 60 and that I need to "re-learn" it especially since it's 45 years since I did any formal exercise if you know what I mean.

    I'll persevere !

    I have found yoga very helpful in developing balance. I used to be terrible and it has improved a lot. It's a mix of two things, using all of the small muscles to help you maintain the balance but it's also a discipline of mind, being able to put your focus into your body. The exercises above sound good, also I'd recommend just lifting one foot if you're standing anywhere (boiling the kettle again being a good suggestion but I will do it discreetly in queues or whatever as a way of passing the time). Practice does make perfect for sure. This is really important as we age, lack of balance can be a major issue in falls for older people so you're absolutely right to try to improve yours now while you're still relatively young.

    Really well done on the weight loss to, your knees will thank you for it!
  • I have always had this balance problem myself. I could never figured it why I have this.

    thanks again - I'm so glad it's not just me with this problem. As suggested I now practice standing on one foot in the kitchen - waiting for the kettle and while washing up mainly. I've also found a couple of short demos on YouTube which I will start.

    I once got told to pull on the ear of the other side to try and help, esp when trying to balance for doing warm up. It looks silly but normally works as I have no balance at all and I'm 28 unless I pull my ear on one side when holding the opposite leg
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:
