Renting Deposit

I have recently left my rented flat after I purchased my first house in December.
The tenancy on the flat ended on 22nd February 2015 (my mortgage and rent unfortunately overlapped for a few months). I handed my keys in on 21st February to ensure they got them and the check out inspection was taking place on 23rd February in the morning.
I am based in Staffordshire and so is the flat, but my estate agent and Landlord are in London. They use a local company in my town to market the flat and to issue the keys and hand them back in and to complete the check in and check out.
I emailed them on 27th February regarding my deposit and they said they would send a cheque within 10 working days.
Is that 10 working days from the tenancy ending or 10 working days from the check out? It has been longer than that since both now, admittedly only by a day.
Does it take longer than this, or should I be writing them a letter asking for it back by now?

Hi,
I am in a similar boat regarding my tenancy deposit and have read the contract several times, what I understand it to be is after 10 working days of the tenancy ending (So when you moved out) they should make you aware of any deductions they are wanting to take.
From what I assume after this they have no right to take anything away from the deposit unless you agree to it, what I would advise doing is writing or sending them an email requesting your deposit and see where this gets you.0 -
In my experience the time is counted from the check-out inspection.
No harm in calling them to check up on it though.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

Yes, I did wonder this as I haven't received anything to say they would be taking any deductions. Well I hope not, they made us pay to have the carpets professionally cleaning before we left, pay to have the curtains professionally dry cleaned and it was left immaculate when it was filthy when we moved in! I asked the letting agent if I could do that. They said I wasn't allowed and if I did that, they would still take the cost for the carpets to be professionally cleaned out of my deposit.
Although, all my contract actually said was 'You must ensure the carpets are clean and are in the same state as when you moved in', I just thought it was easier to get it done than argue with them! 0 -

If they had tried to deduct any money, the scheme would most probably found in your favour as this is generally regarded as an unreasonable demand.
You need to return the property in the condition in which you received it; if it was grubby then handing it back equally grubby is OK.
Go to the scheme now and put in a claim for full repayment.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
