Remove chimney stack

I'm about to look into getting a couple quotes but wanted to know if anyone had a rough guesstimate.
3 bed semi - chimney stack on the non shared side is very tall and thin and the brickwork/pointing is crumbling. The shared chimney on the other side of the house is perfectly fine.
I'm not bothered about having the whole chimney removed throughout the house, but just to take the stack to below the roof line and then re tile the hole. It showed up on the survey when we bought the house and was 'something to keep an eye on' but I really want it sorted so I can sleep soundly on a windy night.. Any rough ideas on price would be helpful as I literally have no idea what sort of price range to expect and don't know any roofers/builders who can advise me. However vague would be useful!

By the time you removed stack and fixed roof, must be cheaper just to have the stack repointed .0

I paid £350 for the old back boiler chimney on my house to be removed down to the roofline, the roof made good and all the resulting rubble cleared and removed from site. While they were on the roof they also replaced a couple of missing tiles for me.
This was done using ladders only - if you need scaffolding the price goes up by hundreds of pounds.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Yes. Our quote for re pointing was 300, removal below roof line 500 (with ladders) then in the end what we decided to do was remove thru out the housr which cost 2.4k Inc skip hire.0

I paid approx £500 to have mine removed to the roofline and the roof made good. However the section underneath it in the loft had already been removed before I bought the place and the remaining section was being held up by two wooden beams attached to the rafters!
Now I need to remove the monstrosity of a fireplace and bottom of the chimney that's left in the lounge.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Thanks for responses. Very helpful.
We did get one quote for re pointing the chimney stack when the house was under offer and it came back as £1,000 but they suggested removing it to below the roof line wouldn't be much more and quoted £1,200. This included hire of a scaffold tower.
I definitely want to get it removed so will look into getting a few different quotes.0
