ipod touch pretending to be connected to wifi!

I am trying to connect to my wifi at work on my ipod touch. The wifi username and password is unique each day. My ipod however is pretending to be connected to the network at the moment and won't come up with the option for entering todays username and password. My 3 wifi bars are on, but I know it's not connected because I didn't enter these details and I can't get anything to work without wifi!
It has done this to me before and I have tried pressing 'forget this network' I've tried restarting, but each time it just pretends it is connected! Any ideas how I can enter the username and password when it is not prompting for it?

Best way is to remove required Wi-Fi from possible networks and then search again but do not connect automatically.0

I tried that, will try again!0

...nope, it's still pretending to connect up straightaway!0

Disconnect and Forget the wifi network, then reboot the Ipod. Does that help?0

I'm trying that again!...0

Reboot your router then try again. Simplest way is just unplug it from the power socket and wait 10 seconds then plug it in again. Wait a couple of minutes for the router to re-initialise.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

...no, no no, it's still doing it! I forgot the network, disconnected wifi, shutdown all the programs, shut down and rebooted. Went to wifi, selected the one I want and it puts a tick next to it straightaway as if it is connected, no asking for passwords. It is not connected though!0

I'm not at home, it's my work's router.0

If it's a captive portal, where the username and password is typed into a web page, then you might need to visit a web page (any webpage) in order to trigger the re-registration. An actual web page, not the Facebook / Twitter / etc app.
It's the "username" that makes me think this. If it's a WPA2 Enterprise network you'd have a username and password for yourself, that doesn't change. If it's a WPA2 pre-shared key network, as you probably have at home, you would have a password, but no username.0
