I have a dream!

I live two miles from the sea, on a windy day everything gets covered in sand!
My dream is after retirement to start a dog walking/dog sitting business in my village and to be able to make enough money to continue to live comfortably in the home I've lived in these past 28 years.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

I am living my dream, I live in a 3 bed ex council house with a small garden with my darling hubby.
Before this I lived in a 6 bed/4 recp room house with almost quarter acre of garden with my ex who made me very unhappy.

I wished we lived within walking distance of the sea but it's not too bad were about a five mile drive to the nearest beach,we go nearly everyday with the dogs.0

We had a dream of a smallholding and animals in the country when we had younger children but they grew up as all of them must and flew the nest and we looked at the nest and decided to make as much of the dream happen here instead. We live near to a nice river with walks, we live in a large village with a few shops and a bus route and 2 miles from the doctors surgery which is good as you get older. We have 1/6th of an acre of gardens and have a good sized greenhouse, a large polytunnel, a mini barn, fruit trees and veg beds and then we have a full size allotment behind the houses across the road. It's not the dream I dreamed of self sufficiency but it's a realistic dream that I now wouldn't change for anywhere or anything else.0

Instead we have lived and I have cleaned this old house for 26 years.
Oh says we have to stay here because of his job. Em.... a supermarket job.
Have you a dream?
I have your dream I live within 10 minutes walk of the sea, and I usually walk the dog on the beach most days we have a castle and if I drove for 5 minutes I would be in the countryside, I love living where I do I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.0 -
I'm not too far from the sea; it's a ten-minute drive, but I'd prefer a ten-minute walk! And I dream of having a bit of a view, a bigger living room and a bigger garden, and (perhaps a little oddly) a proper larder. But that said, we're not badly placed here, where we raised our family; just doesn't make my heart sing, or OH's. We look out onto brick walls, although we're only 100 yards from open country, the garden's not tiny but it's also fairly non-negotiable in the placing of buildings etc. restricting what we can plant where, and is well overlooked, and very few stars are visible in the night sky, thanks to the nearby city.
My dream actually involves having a property that I/we can earn at least part of a living from, one way or another. So an outbuilding is called for too, as a studio/workshop/store. And enough room for the whole family to come for Christmas, and stay in the summer holidays. But to do that round here, we'd need to win the Lottery!Angie - GC Nov 25 £58.39/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I live a mile from the sea and would highly recommend it.
Start looking for jobs on the coast for him....;)
I'm in the north, so it can be like living in a wind tunnel at times, but this is outweighed by all the positives.....seriously good ice-cream whenever you want it...:)
I am pretty content with my home to be fair, if I could change anything I would have more garden to grow things, but you can't usually get everything in life can you.
I could upgrade I guess to get more land, but can't be bothered with more mortgage....so I will satisfy myself with what I have.
In an ideal world (or my dream home), I would be in a smaller village, with shops and restaurants I can walk to, but still by the sea.
I say go for it if you can.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
The furthest I've lived from the sea was 9 miles. That was ok though as it was in a town on the Norfolk Broads so at least I could see water when I wanted.
We down sized a few years ago and I would say I'm living my dream in many ways.
So interesting to read others' dreams0 -
