I have a dream! nothing new then? I have always wanted to live within walking distance of the sea.
Instead we have lived and I have cleaned this old house for 26 years.
Oh says we have to stay here because of his job. Em.... a supermarket job.

I dream of living in a really, really remote place, deep in the countryside, so that the nearest neighbours are at least 10 miles away.... and of being healthy enough that this would be practical.:o
The reality is I'm 2 miles from Central MK, and reliant upon a wheelchair and an entire pharmacy of medication.:cool:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Living on a big enough patch of land that I can be almost totally self sufficient and OH and I can garden in the buff

With somewhere beautifully scenic to run/cycle/train for ultra marathons. And an excellent pub.
I think I'd still like to be able to hop on a train to the theatre/museums/art galleries though. Currently live 30 mins door to door from Marylebone but have a reasonable garden in a quiet area with lovely neighbours, so it's not all bad. Nowhere near ready to retreat from civilisation yet (plus I'm in the middle of a degree!)0 -
OHs job would definitely get in the way of running away to the picturesque bottom end of nowhere - he's an addiction worker, and can't drive because he's partially sighted!0

Hi Goodadvice
I live right opposite the sea!:T
I lived in London for 32 years. Then my husband was made redundant, and my daughter needed a secondary school, so we moved to Hastings. Best thing I have ever done. My children had a great upbringing. My daughter went on to marry a local boy, and now her two children are having an idyllic childhood too.
Sometimes you just have to say "Go for it!" and take that leap of faith, you never know where it will lead you!:rotfl:I Believe in saving money!!!:T

I live by the sea and hardly ever bother going on the beach.
We do tend to take our surroundings for granted, don't we?0 -
I thought my dream was to live in the country, self sufficiant as possible, and we were - after divorce it became a pain as I was sole parent to 3 young kids and as they got older became an on call taxi for them as the school was 5 miles away, and apart from a tiddy bread and milk shop, 10 miles from a shop - although it was a beautiful area, it became a nightmare for the kids who wanted to play with other kids, so I moved 'home' to the Island, and for the last 12 years have been 10 mins from the sea, 30 seconds from a massive park and a short drive from rolling hills
As Dorothy once said 'There,s no place like home'....... For me and the kids anyway xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

I am awoken every morning to the dulcet (not!) sounds of the seagulls. I walk 2 minutes from where I live and I can see the sea. A few years ago I actually had a se view from the kitchen...that was really lovely! (Sadly, disability meant that I took the 'quick route' down the stairs - you know the one, you take the first two steps and then miss all the rest as you tumble gracelessly down to the bottom! - once too often for safety and it was decided I needed to move!)
I am far from mobile and use a walker....but on a good day I can get to my favourite cliff top sea view in about 15 minutes.
Living close to the sea has its disadvantages too....it is sheer chaos here in summer! All the tourists come - admittedly good for struggling local business - and you cannot move through the town centre...and don't even THINK of going to the beach!
If I allow myself to dream.....it would be to recover enough health so that I could feasibly move away from the sea and live in the mountains!...preferably with a small herd of goats!....I would earn a small living by milking my goats and making/selling goats cheese!0 -
good advice - tell your OH that seaside towns also have supermarkets! Maybe there's opportunity to transfer to another branch? One life - your life - live it!0

I was born and raised near the sea. Even though we lived in a hot climate, we never went there much, except as children to wet our feet. Fast forward a few years and I was living in Germany. How I longed to be near a beach and the hot climate. In 2004 the region was destructed by the Tsunami. When I visit the country now, the same beach is not as appealing as it was before.SPC 08 - #452 - £415
