You need to be using course thread dry wall screws ,which are available in a multitude of lengths for doing just that , as for missing the joists, you take it out and try again.
yep and hope it doesn't fall on your head using those .. have you found a perfect flat ceiling where you work?as most where i work are all over the place and in one spot the screw goes nicely, on the other its a gap underneath it, and a bit of extra push and the screw head is in.. you miss a joist, you take it out and try again till you hit anything thats out of sight i d better stay home than having to pay for water leak etc ..As good as i may be with helping others, and i do go the extra mile to help , the ultimate answer is ''the clients issues don't have to be my issues''0 -
''Once room is cleared out, apply correx to floor for protection then apply one coat of PVA to ceilings then one bonding coat of plaster and two coats of multi-finish.''
so what are the chances of this pva drying in time same day for the plasterer to apply any thing on top of it ?? zero.... or with a bit of luck he can stay after midday to put the bonding .... my forum advice like yours is not a paid advice. i say it as i feel.. i may be wrong some times , but not on this instance0 -

Is this really that catastrophic? I know plenty of people (including us) who have had their ceilings skimmed and this is what the plasterer has done- all in one day. None of us have lumps of plaster falling off. And they've used PVA.0 -
Very expensive had the kitchen re boarded and plastered for £200
