Default Loop Hole?

Hi all
I am curious to know, if a Default is applied to your credit file, do the company who have authorised this have to notify you via post (or in writing) that they have applied this to your file?
If they do have to notify you and haven't, are you able to request this default be removed as potential guidelines/protocol have not been followed?
I would appreciate your thoughts

Brilliant Fermi- Thank you!
Reading that information, and other bits I have read up on, if they haven't formally given notice of a default, they could be removed?0 -
What default(s) are you looking to challenge?0

I have default with:
Natwest (current account) I am checking up on this one as is don't ever remember being in debt with this account and I have never had a formal written letter of notice of default either (if the account ever went into default)0 -

First of all you should be asking them to prove you were actually indebted to them, before looking into whether or not they followed correct procedure.
Even if they followed procedure to the letter, it matters not if there was no debt in the first place! What will your verse be?

They are not legally required to send you a notice of intention to file a default for a current account.
That said generally banks do write to their customers clearly informing them to bring the account back in to terms and failure to do so will reported to the credit reference agencies (or words to that effect).
But as said I would focus on understanding if the alleged debt is correct.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks to everyone for the help. I would ask, is noddle a trusted credit file source? Or should I look elsewhere?0

It's a trusted source of those who report to it. But you need to check all three CRAs for a complete picture.0
