Hi guys
My car hasnt passed its mot and would need lots of work, so im buying a new car and want to transfer the private plate over.
The old car has tax just out of mot in mid Feb, ive read you can do it as long as its still taxed? Do you just fill in the forms as normal?
Thank you

I know of people that have old cars off the road for ages, scrap them and take the private plate off and put on a new car, well i know of one person? I cant lose the plate
Thank you0 -
I think #2 is mistaken.
Just as long as both vehicles are taxed is all you need.

Yes thank you!! Found also a consession when its beyond your control like an unexpected mot fail you can still transfer, both have tax new one has mot, so should be ok, thank you x0 -
So long as the "from" has had tax within the previous 12 months, and hasn't had a gap when it's been untaxed/unSORNed, you'll be fine. MOT is only needed on pre-60 cars, where an MOT isn't needed to tax them.0

I agree. Apologies OP.
Out of curiosity I checked the procedure the other day, but it was for a pre-1960 car.0
