Virgin Atlantic Miles/Upgrades

Evening Everyone

I just had a couple of questions about earning extra miles and also how you use them to upgrade flights?

We've looked at flights and an upgrade on the way out is £300 each but the return is £1500+ each so I was wondering can you upgrade one way with cash and one way with miles? Also do you do this when you book or wait until at check in and ask?

I'm also desperately trying to earn miles through tesco points and using top cash back etc but wondered if anyone knew of ways to earn more than 10 points at a time. We're not wine drinkers so can't take advantage of the virgin wines deals. I'll sell my soul to get these upgrades ;-) DH has back problems and we will be travelling to 2 x1
Year olds!!!

TIA

Depending on your credit history and spending habits

AMEX Charge cards (gold or Plat) and Virgins own CC (Black and white) can bag you some serious miles

    See headforpoints for the info.

    Join headforpoints and VFlyer.

Use shops away for everything via the VS website. I have half a million miles from flying and shopping, just tonight I ordered my Mother's Day flowers at 24 miles per £1.....I fly UC 4/5 times a year only paying an economy M fare or flying G only paying taxes.

Half a million miles!!! I'm jealous and astounded. That's great going. I've joined the v flyer and following head for points on fb so thanks for that. I'm keeping my eye in shops away too and will see what I can route through there.

    Thanks for the suggestions :-)

    Mrs B and I have 0.5 million between us:D

Last time I paid for a flight with them was so long ago i can't remember.

    TIP
With the CC's and Charge cards get one each

Get a PLAT charge card-then refer the Mrs for one-Gets you more MR points

You can get BOTH a Virgin Black and white CC each.

So if you play it right that's 6 CC's to make points.

Just closed my PLAT charge card (after 3 months) and made £80 profit and 100,000 MR points.

And no doubt took yourself down a few points on the credit rating scores in the process ;)

Beware the downsides to so many credit applications :)

Don't forget that you will need to book a flight that IS upgradable with miles. Standard economy tickets don't allow it.
You would need to book one of the following classes of ticket, W, S, Y, B, R, L, U and M.

Gift cards from Tesco (except Tesco own brand) earn 150 bonus club card points per £50. Pay with a Gold Amex and thats 100mr points/miles + 150cc pointsx2.5 total 475 miles per £50 worth
You can buy just about anything these days with gift cards. Coffee, Pizza, Bella Italia, Nandos, Pub chains, Next, New Look,Primark B&Q, Argos, Homebase, prepaid Visas and American Express cards. The list is huge.just need to get focused and target your spending.

Oh and 100 used inkjets off ebay gets you to 10K Club Card points

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Can you but the gift cards in store or do you have to get them delivered? Also can you make £50 up from 2 shops or is it a straight £50 per gift card?

Btw we have an inkjet printer so will start sending off the cartridges... Is it common for people to buy them off eBay? Is it, er, dodgy?
