declaring as an at fault claim
my car was damaged by a hit and run driver and i had to claim for the repairs through my own insurance
it is now that time of year when insurance is due for renewal and if i wish to move insurance companies do i declare this hit and run as an at fault claim against me?
even though i was an innocent party it was my insurer that had to foot the bill so i assume it will go down as an at fault claim
on the renewal schedule it says
so when i do an online quote is the protected no claims discount transferable to another company?
not sure where i stand on this and looking for help

Cover for this vehicle is based on six years or more no claims discount (NCD) which is protected

Your claim is a "fault" claim (fault doesn't refer to "blame" - it refers to whether or not your own insurer had to pay out)
Your 6 years NCD is transferable - as far as the "protected" status goes that will be insurer dependent.0 -
It's my understanding 'fault' isn't strictly who was the blame, but whether your insurer paid out a claim or not. So in this instance it's at fault.
Happy to be corrected though0 -
that is what i thought as it was my insurer that covered the cost of the claim it was classed as an at fault claim
i have never had to declare anything like this before so it is all new to me, and i want to make sure everything i put in the online proposal form is correct and does not risk invalidating my insurance farther down the line0
