Transferring & receiving euros from spain

Greetings all

Very frustrating day attempted to open either an hsbc or Citibank euro account as the wonderful MSE guide suggests - HSBC cant help & Citibank wont open a euro account - which would do the job - without a citi plus (Not open to out of bank customers) Or a Citigold (Need 75k balance with interest @ next to nothing)

I am very prepared to open a Spanish account in spain to receive & transfer from but cant really deal with £ 15 - 30 in fees in & out.
transactions are 2- 700 euro as an average.

Anyone help ? HELP ! I have a nat west personal & business acc (Current business manager useless)

fxcompared.com lists about a dozen specialist currency transfer services. I have made good experience with transferwise but there are others, and the deals change day by day, or even hour by hour and faster.

or ask Santander whether they can do a deal.

I would recommend a currency transfer specialist like Hifx – if you open your account via topcashback and then make a transfer you will get £21 cashback too. Transferwise similarly pay £10.50 cashback. Both pay better rates than using your own bank.

    There are others as well

  • Yes thanks all - I saw those & do like the better rate they offer - that would help - my feelings tell me (& often they are a bit outdated & I will keep an open mind) Im really after an online bank account as these are pretty frequent - what is the difference between them & an account.

I could do a nat west in uk - Euro Santander (Diff co to UK) acc in spain & group payments

There is nothing to stop you using the currency transfer services frequently. They are all done online, so you have 24x7 access. Just like with online banking.

I would also recommend a currency transfer specialist like Hi Fx or First Rate FX. Good luck.

You always recommend the same two and you never post about anything else. Yawn.

We all know they offer rarely, if ever, the best.

That's because they are the ones i use and i think they are the best, hence why i recommend them. Just like you are recommending the ones you think are the best. Each to their own, now go and find something else to do. Yawn!
What are you doing at MSE besides recommending them? If you work in international transfers, why do you not use the company that you work for? If you work for one of the above, then get lost...

Hi, looking for a bit of advice.

I had 9000 euro in a current account in Ireland as I used to live there. At New Year I transferred this into my partners Irish account as the current account was getting charges etc. This relationship has now ended and while I'm not concerned he will use the funds, obviously my family are worried this money is no longer in my name and think i should get it transferred back to the UK asap, despite the appalling exchange rate. Already I have lost had I transferred it say a week ago.

An Irish friend said to just leave it, but having done a bit of research online it seems many think the euro rate will continue to fall against the pound for some time to come, and won't reach the 0.85 it was when I was living in Ireland.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Hi,

I'm Spanish working in the UK since 2005. I work ocassionally in Spain and receive my payments into my Spanish acc. Then I transfer the money via Transferwise.com, the best transfer specialist in my opinion, and with incredible savings. Forget about transferring money from bank to bank. Don't let them rob you with extortionate fees! Do it via transferwise, you will not regret it.

    Best wishes.

Advice on what? The exchange rate forecast? You need a prophet or clairvoyant then, not some strangers on the internet forum.
