Self-booking holiday - pay by paypal?

We're in the process of booking our summer holiday, but we're organising the flights, hotel and car hire separately by ourselves rather than going via an agent. The hotel have asked us to pay them either by bank transfer or PayPal.
Neither of these methods give us any protection if everything were to go wrong i.e. section 75 protection for payment by credit card. The Paypal protection policy doesn't apply because it's not for physical goods and we'll be paying a deposit and final balance rather than a single payment, not to mention this will be done more than 45 days in advance.
There is no mention of cover for this in our travel insurance policy.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I've never heard of a hotel that doesn't accept payment by CC, which country is it in ?0

If you can pay by credit card but if not check trip adviser to see what the reviews on this hotel are and maybe contact someone who stayed there and ask how the payment went? We had a holiday in Tanzania where they did not take anything other than bank transfer so had to trust them and everything went fine.0

Arrange with the hotel that you will pay cash when you are there...0

We came across a few small hotels/B&B's in France which don't take cards, but avoided them even though the reviews were good. They were probably OK, but was just being cautious.I've never heard of a hotel that doesn't accept payment by CC, which country is it in ?
OP - you haven't been contacted after making the booking have you? There've been scams going on that do this - the scammers somehow get hold of your booking details (not sure how) and contact you saying you now have to pay by bank transfer. Except it isn't the hotel, it's a scammer, the hotel know nothing about it.0 -
I'd ask if they'll accept cash. If not, I'd opt for bank transfer, but that's purely personal preference as an online seller I've learned to hate both eBay and PayPal.0
