Hello everyone
People are spending more and more on phones now-a-days with people paying upwards of £500 for a phone or getting locked in to a £50 a month contract.
I'm just wondering what tricks other people go about saving on their mobile phone bills?
Personally I use GiffGaff who offer free calls and texts to other GiffGaff numbers - and since all my family and friends are now on the network I only need to top up £10 about once every 3 months!

Ok then, answering your question.
If I had to start all over again, I would use a smartphone over wifi and use Skype instead of a mobile network. I live in a urban area, where I can scrounge wifi all over. Otherwise Skype offers an app that connects to the nearest wifi and you pay as you go. In this case you pay twice (the connection to wifi and the Skype call).
But I have been with Virgin for 12 years and I have the old PAYG tariff and I am not erally motivated to change.0 -
The cheapest way depends on your use.
I don't use many minutes but quite a lot of texts and data.
I moved from giffgaff to three as the offer and coverage from three better suited my needs.
If you only make the occasional call then a cheap phone which you top up as and when required is the way to go.0 -
If on contract, start by picking a tariff that actually matches your usage. Lots of tales of woe on here when people take £40-£50 2 year contracts with a thousand minutes, unlimited texts etc, and then lose their income and say they 'I can't pay, what can I do?' And usually claim that they 'hardly use their phones much'. That's where lots of money gets wasted from the outset. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I can't see anything better than delight mobile at the moment.
Free delight to delight calls/texts, matches Three's 321 prices and on EE's network, however I have no experience with them as a company.0 -
I'm not a heavy user so I have a Phone Co-Op Sim, costs me around £7 a month to run. I bought a brand new Chinese Galaxy S5 rip off for £50 from eBay which I have been running happily for a year with no problem.0
