Hi everyone, we now have a full wedding insurance guide you may find helpful.

---

Hi , Me and my lovely Fiancee have booked a venue , booked the church and things are moving on swiftly , our date is in 2016 June.

But we have been advised it would be a good idea to buy some wedding insurance .

I have bought house / car / other insurances in the past , but i am a total newbie when it comes to wedding insurance.

Can anyone advise please , how much are we likely to be paying for wedding insurance ( i guess wedding total will be around 15-20k all in)

Any good companies we should be considering ?

Advice and help welcomed :)
!!!!! Lifes wonderful !!!!!

    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Our wedding was a very similar budget to yours and we used Debenhams wedding insurance - it cost around £50 for their 'Gold' level of cover. I did a lot of research at the time (about 2 years ago) and found that this was the best price for the amount of cover we required. Fortunately we never had to use it so I have no idea what they are like if you need to make a claim!

Currently you get a £20 gift card when you buy their insurance so I think it makes the price quite reasonable:

Ahh, congratulations on your wedding, OP :)

I bought wedding insurance via E&L, who are the cheapest of the wedding insurers and have no excess on their policies. My wedding was below your budget and my policy was £17.10. I think for your budget it would be around £25.

E&L have had some bad reviews on wedding forums, however I am sceptical of insurance companies anyway so decided to take a risk and am so glad I did.

I had to cancel my wedding and whilst I didn't qualify for deposit refunds (no insurer would refund those if you chose not to go ahead with the wedding) I did qualify for £400 of private counselling (which I desperately needed). My claim was responded to within hours, communication from one named individual was both prompt and compassionate and I had my cheque within a matter of days. I couldn't recommend them highly enough - I've not encountered such efficiency and good customer service in a long while!

Of course, I sincerely hope you never need to claim ;)

I'm getting married next March and gone for Debenhams too. You should also be able to go through Topcashback for some ££ back (though I've had to file a missing cashback claim as it didn't process for some reason - bought the insurance a few months ago now).

You need to do a little reading on what they cover and don't cover as not all policies are the same just as not all weddings are the same. I've heard of people needing to claim when the groom needed emergency surgery, the venue burnt down, the gifts were stolen or severe snow meant most of the guests couldn't make it, so it's worth insuring the most expensive day of your life.

I went with Ecclesiastical as I read fantastic reviews and they covered what I needed covered.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

We went for Debenhams too (via Quidco if its still on there) Best £20 I spent as my Dad passed away and I had to postpone my wedding. They were excellent at a very distraught time and I couldn't fault them.
  • I used debenhams too, via quidco only ended up costing me about £25 after cash back. So glad I did it, there was a red wine incident with my dress on the day & they paid for the full specialist cleaning minus the excess which was £25 at the time I think but may now be £50. You'd never know anything had happened to the dress now.
  • Hi,
We used E&L back when we got married and we had to make a claim as the venue owners did a runner 6 mths before the day and we were quickly reimbursed our deposit by the insurers. :)
