Mazda or Volvo

Hi all,
Need a bit of advice. I am planning to change my car in 2-3 months time. I am a bit confused between these 2 cars.
1) Volvo V40 Cross Country (D2)
2) Mazda 3 (Sports Nav)

I know they are a bit different. In the long run, which is more hassle free in terms of maintenance and servicing costs?

Also if anyone owns one of them , could you please share your ownership experience.

Thank you.

To me Cross Country is a silly name. Only the T5 models have 4 wheel drive. 1.6 diesel in the D2. zzzzz 50 - 60mpg not the claimed 74mpg.

Mazda 3 Sport Nav with the 2.2 diesel is a world apart from the V40.
But your probably only going to get 50mpg.

My experience of Mazdas is that they are extremely reliable.

I have a 24 year old Mazda, never let me down engine wise, rust is the only problem.

But then again Volvo's have a good reliability reputation as well, I believe parts are more expensive though.

Thanks guys. Mileage is not so much of a concern. I just need a comfortable car and a good looking one. I do about 80 miles a day, so need a good motorway cruiser.
I currently drive 2007 civic 1.8 petrol which gives me about 45 mpg.

New civic is not as good looking as Mazda 3 or V40 Cross Country.

V40 is a Focus from what I have read.

Mazda is also likely to be Focus based unless Mazda now use their own underpinnings after using the Focus, at one point the Mazda was based on the as yet unreleased Focus.

Silly name aside I would go for the V40.

Have owned a V50 and it was much nicer than the Focus on which it was based

    Why V40 CC not just a V40?
Premium on CC is about £1100 changes are mainly cosmetic.
Don't go D2 though look at the D3 or 4. No difference in economy infact the new D4 engine is supposed to be very economical.
Volvo dealers are pretty good, Mazda dealers more pile em high and sell em cheap.
Comfort wise you cannot beat Volvo or the late SAAB.
Look at what car comparison site or Honest John reviews but take good long test drives. I would push the dealer for a day or weekend. They should not have an issue with this if you are a serious potential.
You may be surprised but sometimes the PPMrunning costs of so called premium brands are less than mainstream.
I have a Volvo V50 for 5.5 years from new 112000m 2.0D. It's the base level S seats are very good.
in the past (2007)have had a Mazda but was an ex demo MX5.
Let us know how you get on.
