Printer

I have a Kodak printer which I picked up cheap when Comet was shutting down. However it is rubbish. Any suggestions for a good replacement. Looking for a wireless one and one that is happy to be used intermittently. Pricewise as little as possible!

Any Canon depending on your budget. I find you have to print a page, maybe once a month to keep the ink from drying out

    Wifi around £49

    .
  • I second the Canon choice. HP is also good. Avoid Brother.

Inkjets have a horrible tendency to dry out, and then costs you more than the printer to buy a new set of inks. If you're looking for occasional and cheap, I recommend you try the cheapest laser printer (they're always B&W). You will save a TON of money on ink.

    Found this one here.

Seconded. If you don't need colour, buy a mono laser, such as the budget Samsungs, from about £60.

What do you want from the printer? If you want to print good quality photos as well as documents, I would go no further than this:

I have used HP printers for years, ever since my last career as a self- employed designer & printer of business and private stationery, brochures, entertainer packs and school prospectuses. I used Business HP printers then because, although often relatively expensive, they last for years, and I have the same results from Home HP machines now. My current printer is a Photosmart C5380 and I have photos from that which are indistinguishable from commercial prints.

It is best to use only HP cartridges in them, I never use compatibles. I keep a check on prices of cart's and currently use E-Buyer to buy sets of cartridges, although there is also Viking and Cartridge King. I also buy the large-capacity XL cartridges when the originals run out.

I think this job really needs

    Nope - not that.

I'm only aware of one website that is automatically filtered out; the one that says it can find the email address of pretty much any CEO. But I can't see that being relevant here.

I would agree with Canon - we have had several inkjets from them, mostly one or other Pixma type, and they last OK.
We generally refill cartridges, unless printing something for top quality, which is relatively easy to do on Canon cartridges. Epson cartridges need the chips reset, but on our Canons you can just tell the printer to ignore the ink out warning - as long as you keep an eye on the levels in the refilled cartridges of course!

...are you going to keep me guessing...
  • I'd steer clear of Epson.

Their built in print heads tend to block, if not used often.
