I got advice from a home ed forum not to let the LEA have any involvement as they try to bully you and make you feel inadequate but I spoke to our local LEA and the lady I spoke to was lovely. I was supposed to write an educational philosophy - what I plan to do and how but in the end invited the LEA officer around to see us instead. She couldnt have been more helpful, told me not to overwork dd2 :o I was doing 2 hour chunks and she said its too much. In school the teacher will spend 20 minutes out of every hour or so settling the class and going over the subject matter, and then spend time answering questions so they reckon for each hour in school only 20 minutes work gets done. This means during the whole day only 2 hours of actual work is being done  She said that as I am giving dd2 one to one teaching, she is getting much more done and an hours work is very intense so not to work her for more than an hour at a time, dd2 is happy with that rule :rotfl:

I find that she is working through stuff really quickly and understanding more as we clear up any misunderstandings straight away. I also check her work and we correct any errors straight away, no waiting a week for her work to come back with a big red X and no explanation as to what she did wrong.

DD2 is only 11 - 12 in a few weeks so GCSEs some way off. We have discussed maybe taking her maths GCSE some time in 2016 as she can already work through most of a GCSE paper with no trouble. The LEA lady suggested whittling her subjects down to the 5 that she is most interested in so we have gone with maths, english, chemistry, physics and biology. We still do arty things, she goes to a pottery class and does knitting, drawing and sewing using a machine. We also take her swimming for exercise and roller skating. She has started helping me more in the kitchen and around the house as she says she liked cookery class so still wants to learn.

It fits in with us really well, so much less stressful as she is happy and much more confident in herself now. Ds2 know his sister is home educated and doesnt mind still going to school...for now lol.

So sorry for the long post :rotfl:

Dearest Strewth...please never appologise for a long post ....I could sit and read about it all day...I am genuinely really interested in not only the education side of equation but also the social and intergration side of it all too...
We looked into it briefly some years back for DS1 but the logistics just became too difficult so we explored other options....not all children fit easily in to the model the government propose for schooling, and I really believe its about finding whats right for those learning.....once you have cracked it then I believe the child will and often does flourish.

So pleased that its working well for you all

They prepped me for a c section too rose and I was just over 2 weeks overdue - they knew he was big through my pregnancy and I am only 5ft 2". They had to give him a dose of calpol after he was born as he was crying and they thought he was in pain :( He is fine now - apart from needing OT for his motor skills and being assessed for Aspergers. He is bright as a button though and so funny. Wouldn't change him even if what he went through made him this way, would never do it again though :rotfl:

I am only 5ft 2 also and that 3 weeks overdue I put on a kilo ( obviously all went on baby). Mine cried first 2 weeks of his life until I have him a dummy he had till he was 4 and he didnt sleep through till then either. He is very bright but no commonsense and at 31 still does not sleep properly at night. My DD slept through at 6 weeks and is 29 and could sleep for England.
