How to find a good IFA

Didn't mean to start an argument, just want to set up some income protection insurance, unemployment insurance etc. and I'm off this week so wanted to get sorted. I have an appointment with an adviser tomorrow.
I agree that there are good and bad in all fields, which led to my initial question, I'm pretty financially savvy, and could explore this myself, but I'll be looking to make some investments shortly, and felt this would be a good time to enlist the services of an IFA.0 -
If your zeros are you telling us that there are no bad IFAs out there then you look to be in denial.
Totally ignoring what is said then I see.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

If you are wanting full PHI rather than ASU for your IP then the vast majority of insurers only sell via intermediaries so no option of doing it yourself. If you have pre-existing conditions then its always worth having a word with the technical support guys before submitting an application which again you wouldnt have access to and for the insurers that have set up a single tied intermediary to deal with their direct approaches then these guys also dont tend to do the pre-quote advice either.
An IFA is only one route in with Protection Insurance. There are whole of market brokers who will do the same thing though dont offer investments etc if you say you're wanting a relationship with someone who can handle all aspects.0 -
