Question about Balance Transfers and Purchases at 0%

I have a a question about Balance Transfers and Purchases at 0% which I hope you guys could clarify.
I applied and received an mbna priority club credit card. Which is 0% on BT for 12 months and 0% on purchases for 3 months. I transfered some credit over which I will pay off later this year with a bonus from work.
Anyway, with this card you can get a free night in an intercontinental hotel if you make a purchase within 90 days of getting the card.
Am I safe to make a purchase and pay the value of the purchase off?
Or would the balance be charged all together? Would the BT and purchase appear seperately on a statement?

This is how they make payments to your card -We will use your payments to reduce balances at lower rates of interest before balances at higher rates of interest. Where you have two promotional rates which are the same, we will use your payments to reduce the balance with the longer promotional period first.
From this, you can see that any payment you make will go towards your balance transfer, not your purchase. In other words payments won't pay of the purchase until you've cleared off the balance transfer.
If you haven't cleared the BT in three months, the purchase will accrue interest each month.Dave. :wave:0 -

This is just a ploy to try and get you to make purchases on the card so they can charge you interest on the purchases after the 3 months period while you are paying off the balance transfer - as Al Mac says the No1 rule is never make purchases on a card you use for balance transfers and vice versa.

What about buying something incredibly cheap? Like a chocolate bar from a supermarket or something? I'm no expert on stuff like this, though...0

Good point. Does it need to be a purchase over a certain amount in order to get the free hotel night though? (I would expect the CC company to have made sure of that but you never know!)
