Thank you Happy Butterfly. I'm not a member. Do you think it is worth it just now or should I wait until I perhaps do some more training?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

I'm not a member myself but an ex work colleague who is a qualified proofer recommended it. I've always wanted to be a copy editor and I have a real talent for it so I usually get called in at work to proof/edit literature etc. I will join if I decide I want to make that my career. It gives you access to industry-recognized courses etc at a discount too.0

Businesses will often search LinkedIn for people to do work for them. It's free to join (for the basic acct) but you can upgrade.
I don't work for either of these organizations by the way! I just find LI very useful for networking.0 -
The trouble with LinkedIn and sites like People per Hour is that there will always be people in places like India and Sri lanka willing to do the same work for peanuts, so the work tends to go there rather than stay in the uk
I'm sure you've probably already done do, but Google "audio transcription work from home"- there is a website, the name of which fails me at the moment, that lists companies specialising in audio. I do work for a medical typing company but you need to have been typing in specialist fields for a number of years, as a secretary before they'll take you on.
Interestingly, I recieved a test audio from take1, it was a nightmare, so much background noise. I haven't finished it yet but I might this week and send it back and see what happensI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. Saw on the Kondo thread that you transcribe, got nosey to see if you had a diary anywhere and found this
I used to do quite a lot of university transcription work, mainly for departments specialising in education research as they record a lot of interviews with teachers and children whilst travelling around schools, so that might be a starting point.
I currently get most of my work via an agency, who are always looking for new people - this isn't a referral link, I get no kick-back from anyone signing up with them, so I hope it's allowed. I've been working for them for just over a year now and they've always paid in full and on time.

Thank you so much CM. I will click on that link now and see what I can find.
I'm just coming to the end of a fairly big (for me) job and need more work. I have been somewhat put off by companies when I see that they require word speeds of 70WPM which I am nowhere near. This doesn't bother me too much as I work at my own pace and any money is very welcome even if it takes me longer to earn than it would for others. Everything is more than I would have if I wasn't working.
If I was more organised too, I would get more work done. Perhaps when I finish reading The KM book I will Kondo my work too and be super-efficient!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Okay, I've had a read through and my typing speed is nowhere near fast enough for the way they work. I need to teach myself to touch type while I am waiting to find more work. I knew that companies had deadlines for transcribers to work to, but realistically I couldn't do something like that just now.
We are hopefully moving house (mind you, I have been saying that since May) and I will be able to set up a proper work station for myself, so that would help.
Off to finish my latest transcript then practice, practice, practice!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

If you're going to post here as a proofreader (or proof reader?), it's probably best not to have any 'howlers' in what you post.
If you were proof reading your own OP as someone else's work, would you approve it? Would you correct anything?0 -

When I am writing in a forum and am using my phone, it is very different from when I am working. And sometimes I don't proofread what I have written in a forum, so occasionally mistakes go unnoticed.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
