If you're interested I know of a transcription company that television production uses. It's either raw rushes or finished episodes to transcribe. You can also say how many hours you are able to do a week and at what times/days.
You can apply on their websites:

Thanks so much Sharon87. Just finished my last scheduled job this morning, so I am anxious to find more work as soon as possible.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

That is exactly the type of website that is so useful for me. As someone who was academic at school and then went into nursing for more than twenty years, I didn't have the opportunity to learn to type. There are a lot of exercises on that site that can help me to learn to touch type. Already, through doing just a few of the exercises I can see that it will be possible to learn.
Up until now I have charged for my work on an per/word or per/transcription basis rather than on an hourly rate, as I am very well aware that my typing skills leave a lot to be desired in terms of speed! My grammar and spelling are excellent (except sometimes when I am using my phone to write posts) and I have had the flexibility to do the work in my own time.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. I noticed they require 80 wpm, which sounds fast to me!! And I can touch type fairly fast. I used to declare my typing speed as 60 wpm, and was tested by an agency and got more like 65. I was quite pleased to see it's now 72, however still not fast enough for them by the sounds of it.0

So much faster than me, by a country mile!
I would love to be a proofreader for medical texts, or similar. The transcriptions that I have done recently were quite specialised I suppose. The clients needed total confidentiality but also someone who was able to understand strong Northern Ireland accents, as they were for interviews dealing with aspects of the Troubles. Fascinating, and not a job that everyone could do. It is limited work though, but I will hopefully be getting some more dissertations in the summer.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. I have spent years as a medical audio-typist though, just typing non-stop for 8 hours per day , must still be in good practice even though had to quit due to poor health
OMG didn't even think 146 was possible. Well done you!!0 -
As I have experience of working mainly with university students, I am interested in exploring that route as I am confident that it is something that I can do. Does anyone know which would be the relevant department to contact?
In the meantime while I am waiting for work I can put in several hours practising typing and brushing up on some editing skills.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Unlikely that there will be a single department, we just arrange it ourselves but with a provider who is already on our preferred suppliers list. You could try speaking to the procurement department but I doubt if they will tell you who their providers are. As I said previously, I think your best option is to find work with a provider who already offers this type of service.0 -
What about LinkedIn (sort of FB for professionals). You have a profile showing your experience, quals etc. You can also join Groups of like Proofreaders & Copywriters where members share advice, useful info etc.0
