Santander have a tendency to make mistakes and are unreliable, so to avoid negative experiences I suggest that you take as much as possible of your business elsewhere.

I'm sure that that Santander get the vast majority of their commercial decisions correct. Nor will they be concerned if people take their business elsewhere.

Aside form Santander's initial mistake, which you got overturned (well done on that) I do not see quite what the issue now is. Santander has not told your other bank not to give you a card and as others have said, there is no 'decline' recorded on your credit file so..

It may be that you already have a high amount of debt or available credit compared to your income and that is what is affecting you. Have you tried using the eligibility checker for new cards here at MSE? It doe snot leave a footprint on your file that other potential lenders can see.

Declines aren't recorded, only searches are, so you would be in exactly the same position now as you would if santander had accepted you immediately.

You can complain about their initial mistake but what's the point? They've already rectified that.

You need to look for the problem elsewhere: -

    1) utilising too much of your available credit?
    2) too much credit available to you?
    3) payday loans?

    Etc.
    What will your verse be?
