Allergic reaction to pet owned by former tenant

I wasn't told about a dog that lived in my room. Have had allergies resulting from it. Am I screwed because it says in contract "you must not keep a pet in house without our permission"? I want out...

It is entirely possible the landlord didn't know about the dog being there. We see it all the time on here people saying it isn't fair they aren't allowed a dog or cat and they are going to get one anyway and hide it elsewhere at inspection time
Explain the issue to the landlord - they may well be sympathetic and see if some kind of deep clean can be done to remove allergins or release you earlyI am a Mortgage Adviser

if it is just one room, are you actually a lodger?2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000

Speak to the landlord, what evidence do you have that it was a dog and you are not allergic to something else?0
-
How do you know there was a dog in the room? Your allergic reaction could be to something else: dust, cleaning products used on the room etc.
And even if you can prove there was a dog in the room, what exactly do you expect your landlord to do about it?0 -
What do you want someone to do?
The best you can hope for is to complain that the house wasn't professionally cleaned before you moved in, so they won't expect to charge you for a similar service on the way out.
Just clean the place.0 -

This is a good question, if you have a serious allergy this is something you should have considered before taking the place and ensured that the place was suitable.
Have you had an allergy test? Sometimes a really good clean with a vax carpet cleaner does the trick. Have you also tried a mattress and pillow protector, helps me.0 -
How long have you been there? Wash all the bedding, curtains etc. twice on a hot wash, rent one of those carpet cleaners from Tesco, and give the place a thorough scrub and you won't have anymore problems.
You don't need to jump to 'I want out' yet, don't panic!0
