laptop error code 0xc0000185

I switched my toshiba laptop on this evening and I got a blue screen with error code 0xc0000185 and can't go any further, could someone help me to try and do a system restore please

if your machine has a recovery partition check the bios splash screen when booting, if not hit F8 until you get the advanced boot options. try booting into safe mode and if this doesnt work go into repair also from the advanced boot options and try a system restore.

I have tried F8 but apparently that doesn't work on windows 8, if I press F12 I can get another screen up which says toshiba set up utility and gives me some options but not sure what they mean.

I have on the screen now " reboot and select proper boot device"

This link looks like it has the instructions for your problem. Your HDD may be faulty if the recovery won't work.
