ppi claim rejected

Is it within FOS jurisdiction? I was helping an elderly relative and FOS rejected on basis they had no jurisdiction over PPI misspell complaints prior to a date I've forgotten but it was mid 00s.
Nothing to lose putting it to FOS anyway if you aren't happy with nationwides response.
It would have been 14 January 2005, however, this only applies if it was sold by an independent broker, which it sounds like your relative's was.0 -
Hi, was hoping somebody could give me some advice on a ppi claim.
My wife and I took out first mortgage with Nationwide in 1996 and have been with them ever since. We recently contacted them about any ppi we may have paid and if there were any way of claiming it back. They confirmed that we had indeed been paying ppi but rejected our claim on the basis that my wife was a student at the time. Is this the end of the story or is there anything else I can do?
Am tempted to try a ppi company out of desperation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
To be fair, if all you said to them was "is there a way of claiming my money back" then it's no surprise they've said no. They are a business not a charity. You would have to show that you were misinformed or wrongly advised and therefore ended up taking out a product which you wouldn't have done otherwise. So were you misinformed and in what way? And if so why wouldn't you have taken the policy bearing in mind that you could lose your home if you couldn't repay your mortgage?
If your wife was a student and the policy covered her then that is an excellent reason for complaint since she would almost certainly not have been working enough hours to be eligible. If the mortgage offer was based on your income and the policy only covered you then it sounds like a pretty good idea.
As has been said before, CMCs can't do anything you can't. So if you still think you have grounds for complaint (and you haven't said what they are so it's difficult to judge) then go to FOS. If you don't and you have just thought you'd try your luck on the off chance then you are unlikely to get anywhere and may even be dismissed as a frivolous complainant. There is not something intrinsically wrong with PPI, especially not covering a mortgage, and it is not a product that you can claim back just because you had it. You need to have grounds for complaint. So, the choice is yours.0 -

How would they arrive with FOS if not rejected by the firm in the first placesussexbhoy wrote: »If you read my post again you'll see that I agree that most are rejected by the FOS, it's your constant claim to posters on this forum that most MPPI complaints are rejected originally by the firms that I disagree with, The FCA puts the uphold rate at 50%, so for you to say most are rejected by the firms is mis-information.0 -

The point is that most complaints aren't rejected by the firms it's at 50%0 -
Not really relevant to this thread. The OP has had one complaint out of one rejected by Nationwide. That is 100%.sussexbhoy wrote: »The point is that most complaints aren't rejected by the firms it's at 50%0 -
It's relevant because a lot of people will look at the one in ten figure and assume they have little chance of success and don't bother complaining when in reality the initial uphold rate is much higher.0
