Nice Hotels in Amsterdam?

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in Amsterdam?

Not near:

Red light district
Noisy bars and clubs
Airport
other nasty things...

Maybe near:

Nice restaurants
Street cafes
Canal
Tourist things

Any advice appreciated!

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

PS - I'm not connected to this website in any way, and I don't gain anything from this post. I also found the discount code on another forum.

NH Caranasa i've just come back from here and as a family we loved it.

On a great square with canals near and a great location.

We will shortly be returning from holiday and need to go from Gatwick Airport to Thameslink, Kings Cross.

My partner has difficulty walking, and needs lift access to ground level, according to info on the internet, Thameslink do not have a lift, so how do wheelchair users manage?

I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest the best way to get to Kings Cross 'overland' so to speak.

    That would be the NH Caransa;

I prefer to rent a house or apartment. More cosy and better value.

we stayed at the Lloyd hotel http://www.lloydhotel.com/ it's in the docks so out of the main tourist districts but only a short bus/tram ride into the centre. Wide range of rooms to suit all budgets and really good food. Might be too far from the action for some but we liked it.
