I am currently with BG for my utilities. (I can already hear the in takes of breath etc) I realise they are not the cheapest. The one thing I do like is that I have a monthly bill which is based on a monthly meter reading submitted either on line or via their app (not on smart meter as yet- apparently not yet ready for my area/property type). I have a monthly direct debit. I like knowing how much my bill is and whether or not my DD has covered it. I don't like the idea of only getting bills a few times a year and then not having been paying enough to cover them.

Does any one know of which other companies allow you to pay monthly and submit monthly meter readings to keep on top of bills.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

OVO. You can have a statement on demand every 14 days if you want one.

Futility allow monthly variable direct debit based on meter readings

Hi I am with Npower and can pay monthly online and submit meter readings.
  • EDF Energy do on request. Not a promoted payment method, but one that is available.

Do you want what suppliers call a variable monthly Direct Debit? i.e. you only pay for what you have used that month?

Or do you simply want a monthly statement, whilst continuing to pay an agreed monthly amount (which may be for more or less than you used that month)?

If it's the second option, it'll probably be easier to list the suppliers that don't ;)

the second option. Monthly statement based on a meter reading paying same each month.

    OK, I'll start :)

    iSupply don't.
They only provide a statement every quarter no matter how many readings you provide.

First Utility provide a monthly bill based on the actual readings you give them, but allow you pay same amount monthly to even things out over a year. I think they are the only company I have been with (and I have been wit a few over 40 years) who have this reliable monthly billing cycle. Worst one was nPower whose policy was one bill every 6 months!

nPower have recently reverted back to quarterly billing, I understand :)

  • ScottishPower have a monthly cash plan where you pay them a fixed amount once a month

    https://www.scottishpower.co.uk/customer-services/bills-payments/payments/monthly-cash

But they are a complete mess at the moment (see my recent posts) :-)

i like it, 'cos they don't have a direct debit into my bank account :-) - i can choose when to pay it within a window of about 10 days each month
