Amazon Gift Vouchers: Cash Transaction?

I was slapped a cash fee and interest for a recent purchase from a website for a transaction that was considered cash. Now I am wiser for my next purchase(s). Is an Amazon Gift Voucher a cash transaction or purchase?

? They did consider my previous purchase as cash but will they consider an Amazon gift card as cash? Can they tell the difference between an Amazon purchase and gift card? I'm using Capital One.

I think this depends on the retailer in the first place - how the transaction is processed.

I asked Amazon (should have done so before posting this thread). They said it will show up as a purchase transaction.
