Barclaycard Freedom Reward Points misleading?

in Credit cards
With a John Lewis Partnership credit card you get 2 points for every £1 spent in a John Lewis store and 1 point for every point spent elsewhere. For 500 points you get a £5 voucher.
I received a letter from Barclaycard about Freedom Reward Points and why I should start using my Barclaycard again. Sounded good:
2 points for every £1 spent in all UK supermarkets
1 point for every £1 spent elsewhere
2 points for every £1 spent in all supermarkets is a much better deal for me than the Partnership card. Or so I thought.
Have just looked at Barclaycard Freedom Reward website and apparently you need 1,750 points to get a £5 voucher.
1,750 points compared to the 500 points with a J Lewis Partnership card.
How misleading was that letter. I should not have assumed that one point equalled a penny, as they do with the Partnership card.
Never assume ...

Nothing to do with the letter being misleading.
You admit yourself that you assumed the points value would be the same as a different card on a different scheme, thats where you made the mistake.0 -
Ah, but the letter should have said what each point was worth, that's where the misleading comes into it.
Sorry to disagree with you.0 -
They offered this card to me (when I tried to close my Platinum Barclaycard) and I happily accepted it - thinking, oooh points! However, looking at other cards and what they offer, the Freedom Rewards isn't really that good a value especially when compared to other points cards out there.
Thinking of closing it. Just need to work up the nerve to go into battle with their retentions department.0 -

I've contacted BarclayCard online as I'd like to close my Initial account. They've text me asking to call the "Loyalty Unit" but reading BIB makes me wonder if I shouldn't bother, haha :rotfl:It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
