iPad Mini stuck in headphones mode

Hi all
As the title says, my daughter's iPad mini is stuck in headphones mode, even though no headphones are attached. I think it may have got wet (even though it looked completely dry and would only have been a few splashes, it's in a case). Everything else is working fine, just no sound. As she is autistic, we really need sound as well.
I have tried plugging headphones in and taking them out again and also turning it off and on again (although it is turning itself back on automatically) and also the reset where you hold the power/home button together.
Any suggestions or is it knackered?
Thanks :-)

Some suggestions from other iPad users on Apple Forum.

Thanks for the link but I've tried all those (with the exception of the compressed air) and nothing's worked.0

Try compressed air. If that fails, you've got nothing to lose so apply WD-40 to the headphone plug and work it in and out of the socket.0

If it's still under warranty, take it in to an Apple store. Even if out of warranty, I'd still take it in, to see if they can help.0

Nooooo !
Keep wd40 well away from electronic/electrical contacts, it's a contact killer.
Pity they banned 1,1,1-trichloroethane, the best contact cleaner ever.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Id suggest putting a small screwdriver down being gentle but firm keep your finger on the volume buttons see if you can see it switching beween headphones mode and normal. Done a few in my time, worst case you damage the headphone jack but if careful you wont.0

Have a look at some suggestions here from Apple 's own site
