Travel insurance and death of a parent

Having travelled abroad regularly for around 25 years and, fortunately having never needed to claim on travel insurance, I now have a situation on which I'd appreciate some advice.
Early this morning my partner's elderly mother passed away and in 10 days time on 17th March we are due to be travelling to the Philippines for a 20-day holiday. We are not 100% sure what will be happening at the moment but with everything that needs to be sorted out and a funeral to arrange there is obviously a very good chance we are not going to be in a position to travel. I have organised the trip myself, booking flights, internal travel and accommodation and I believe most of it is non-refundable. We have the travel insurance policy provided with our Nationwide current account and pay and additional £20 per year to upgrade it to worldwide.
Is it likely that, if we do indeed need to cancel our travel plans, we will be covered by our insurance?

That will depend on the terms & conditions of the policy that you have taken out.

I think you really need to ring the insurance company.
All will depend on the cause of the death, if sudden or at the end of a long illness etc.
I don't mean to sound cold hearted but could you explain this to the funeral director and they may be able to carry out the funeral before hand.
Getting away may just be beneficial after the death of a parent, if you see what I mean.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Yes, I've looked at the T&Cs and it does seem that this is coveredI think you really need to ring the insurance company.

She hasn't been in the best of health for the past couple of years, suffering numerous age-related ailments, and had bowel surgery a few weeks before Christmas. She had been in hospital for just over a week this time but was seemingly doing really well when she passed away. She was almost 85 years old.
We haven't ruled out travelling yet and we do intend to speak with the funeral director about timescales but I fear we may struggle to organise it before we are due to go.0 -
You may just be able to organise it in time i.e. for the 16th.

I've just looked at the nationwide policy wording:
"We will reimburse up to £5,000 per insured person, for journey deposits and costs, which you cannot recover from any other source and this is due to:
1. Death or serious injury or illness to you, a travelling companion, a member of your immediate family, a business partner who are all resident in the UK or a relative or friend in whose home you are intending to stay."
excluding
"A medical condition of a member of your immediate family, travelling companion or business partner (whether they are travelling or not) which
has resulted in that person being a hospital inpatient in the 12 months before the start of this insurance or you booking the journey, whichever is
later or been put on a waiting list for hospital treatment."0 -

Thanks all for your responses and your kind words.
Having spoken to the funeral director it looks extremely unlikely that the funeral can be arranged before we are due to travel but they have said that there would be no problem in delaying until after our scheduled return.
I think I will need to get clarification from the insurance company about our cover. She has been treated for many things in recent months and was a hospital in patient for her surgery but as yet we don't know whether the cause of death was linked to any previous condition.
If it turns out we aren't covered we stand to lose a very hard earned couple of grand if we don't travel so I'd probably just have to see what frame of mind my other half was in nearer to the date.0 -

Is there a reason why you have to wait so long for the funeral as I would have thought a death today could mean a funeral the middle of next week around the 12th?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
