Help! problem with Go Skippy Insurance!

Hi all, hoping someone can give me some advice! Other half took out car insurance with go skippy on 2nd of February. He paid his deposit, then on 2nd of March he paid the next instalment. We have had three emails from them, one stating his insurance was up and running, 1 allowing us acess to the website, then one yesterday saying the policy had been cancelled and he owed them £54. When he phoned up to query, he was told the insurance had been cancelled on the fourth because he had ignored numerous requests for his drivers licence. None of these requests were received, and when he offered to send a copy of his licence straight away he was told no, the policy was canceled and we owed them.more money. He pointed out that they were happy enough to take his March payment, and that he wanted that money refunded as we hadn't received any requests for documents, at which point he was hung up on. Does anyone know what our rights are over this? Can we fight for the money back? All advice gratefully received as we have now paid out nearly £150 and need to get insurance sorted, which we can't afford right now!

He does need to fight this as unless he can get this decision to cancel the policy reversed he now has a cancelled policy on his record which will make getting cover difficult (on line insurers won't usually quote if you have a cancelled policy) and expensive.

Send a formal complaint and escalate to the FOS if you are unhappy with the reply.

In the meantime if he needs cover see if a local broker (not Swinton) can help, or SORN the car if he can manage without it.

Sounds really suspicious. I've never been asked for a copy of my driving licence by an insurer.

    Follow Quentin's advice.

I was asked when i got my first car which was quite a while ago now. And then never asked again until last year when i changed insurer.

And again this year by my previous insurer that never used to ask. I just think they are being more cautious and asking for a copy just in case you forgot to mention any points.

  • Hi all, i baught my car insurance with Go skippy last month but i was not happy with a few thing because of that readon i cancelled my policy within three days. They paid my deposit back and i got an email confirming cancellation. After a month i checked my bank statement and i saw that they have taken one monthly payment out of my account. I emailed them and try to ring but they always put me on hold for hours and keep transfering me to different departments. I have recieved my money back yet. So kindly do not buy you insurance with this company but if do then make sure that they are taking right money out of accounts. thanks
