Help with pregnancy tests

Hi all

My last period was 4th Feb. I tested last Friday (27th feb) with a first response (wishful thinking) and got a negative. Out of curiosity I tested on Monday morning (2nd March) with another first response and got a positive - see pic.855DFD30-96B1-48DC-992F-CF943522E509.jpg

I tested yesterday with a clearblue digital and got a negative. Have tested again this morning with first urine and got a negative on a morrisons own brand and a clearblue (non digital).

I'm going to pop and get another first response but I'm so confused! I thought there was no denying the first test! Maybe it's still early days and the tests today are not as sensitive...? I'm normally a standard 28day cycle but I had a miscarriage (ERPC) at christmas and have only had one bleed since then.

Any advice or thoughts?!x

Do the two lines on the picture indicate pregnant or not pregnant?
  • Sorry the two lines mean pregnant. The line in the right is the control line and the line on the left the test line x
  • I've been told by the doctor that a false positive is very rare, and it is more common to get a false negative. It is still early days so your hcg levels will be low. I've always just used supermarket or boots own brand tests.

Fingers crossed for the next test..

I would check the sensitivity of the tests,.the clear blue digital is one of the least sensitive tests there are, and I'm not sure about the morrisons ones. It could that thatit is too early to pick up on these tests yet (on the ttc thread front page is a list of the tests and how.sensitive they are) so it may be worth trying in a couple of days.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it is a bfp.x

I think you should be more MSE, relax for a week, then buy the two for 99p tests from a 99p store that work just fine!

I never tested until I was several days past my period due date.

False positives are rare, but they do happen.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    I've been Money Tipped!
The superdrug own brand tests are some of the most sensitive available and not terribly expensive, so if you do want to do another test straight away I'd suggest trying them.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Did the line look that clear at 5mns? I had once a faint line at 5ms that turned a bit like yours after a couple of hours when I definitely wasn't pregnant (hence they insist that tests should be disregarded after that time.

Another possibility was that you started producing the pregnancy hormones at a very low level which was picked up because of the sensitivity of the test but the pregnancy didn't stick and your body stopped producing the hormone.

Or it could be that indeed the first test was much more sensitive and you'll get another positive with the same brand.

As others have said before your period is due the level of pregnancy hormone is very low. Also different pregnancy test brands have different levels of sensitivity.

The best thing to do is wait until at least a couple of days before your period is due, if not later, find a test that is more sensitive, and use your first morning urine which has the highest hormone content. Then wait the appropriate amount of time, not longer, and know that false positives are rare. Good luck.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
  • I retested with a couple of cheapys and they all came out negative. Then I tested with a first response and a second line came up within the 10mins but it's much fainter than before. No idea what's going on. Will see if my period comes over the next few days and if not will test again and contact my doctor to get bloods taken x
