Where to get a first car from?

Good plan, £1k on each sounds doable.
Unless either of you are mechanically minded get a friend so minded to help you inspect the car, lots of decent stuff out there for the budget especially if you are prepared to be unfashionable, buy privately for the best bang for your buck.0 -
Something like this is doable. Just remember people put cars on for sale usually for a tad more than what they actually want to sell at so they have room to bargain.

Just make sure if going for something quite young and low miles that its not a cat c or d car.
Insurance will be higher and re sell will be harder.
Say you were going for the above car, instead of paying for an HPI check get a friend in the car trade to run it through their system for free.
A quick request on facebook or similar would help to find this friend.0 -
