Eq-3 Max Wireless Control System

Has anyone any experience of the Eq-3 Max Wireless Control System for gas central heating?

I am considering this or the Honeywell Evohome system, but the former is much cheaper to purchase.

These systems are supposed to reduce gas bills by 15% but I would like some feedback if this is reality.

Thanks for the URL. I did have a look there, but the site is more into the Honeywell system than EQ-3

Other people post their as well - such as Heat Genius users. It is busy with Honeywell at the moment as the documentation isn't brilliant and geeks want to know how every aspect of the system works.

As far as savings are concerned, take these with a large pinch of salt. If you have no controls, then you might save 40% by installing Evohome. My own savings with the Evohome system have been between 10 and 15% but the real advantage is that the heat follows you around the house when and where it is needed. Provided it is installed properly - mine wasn't - it is a fit and forget system.

Thanks for the information concerning your system.

We have a new property with 8 radiators and 2 towel rails off the gas c.h. system. It is a condensing boiler with immediate hot water. All radiators except one, have Danfoss thermostatic valves. There is an overriding Danfoss wall thermostat in the hall.

I would think the system is already fairly efficient so possibly the payback time on the installation cost of a Honeywell system would be too long, that is why I was looking for feedback on the EQ-3 system. I am also reasonably competent at DIY so could probably install this latter myself. However, to use your term I would want a fit and forget system.

A minor detail that puts me off both of them is that you can't seem to get chrome valves to match the chrome towel rails. The EQ-3 valves are more difficult to read because they were designed for the German market which has horizontal valves.

I really only need to alter 1 bathroom, 1 bedroom and a vestibule throughout the day, so may just resort to non wifi digital valves, but again there are no chrome ones for the towel rails which puts me off. The EQ3 digital valves are about £21 for 3 which is a good price, but they are difficult to read compared to others at about £25 per valve.

Last time I checked, EQ-3 didn't do boiler interlock. Electricity use of a boiler is non-trivial, so that mattered to me.
  • I am looking into the EQ-3 MAX! system at the moment and apart from the lack of boiler interlock, I am pretty impressed.

Leblanc, did you go for it?

Smiley Dan, you post reads like you went for another system. which one?

any experience and or advice would be much appreciated

    thanks

  • Hello,
yes I have extensive experience with this system. Its Very good. Its zones your house. I have in fact started a project so that maintenence information can be uploaded for further savings. It can hard to install if your radiator head valves on your raidators are misalligned, the wrong size or broken, but this is a great exercise anyway. Good luck! If you want the link direct message me. As I am a new user I cannot post my site to you!
  • Also Boiler Interlock is not needed on modern boilers as they measure the temperature of the water coming back to the boiler. If there is little difference (which means the eQ3 radiator devices have decided to close) in this then the boiler will switch itself off.
