It's the new way to pull in an audience: antagonise them into publicising them and bringing their readers, listeners or viewers back for more. Look at the BBC these days, they take a contrary view to public opinion on pretty much anything going. Annoying your audience into telling their friends and people on message boards seems to be the easiest way to pull in a crowd.0
