Very - Default

Hello,

I wonder if anyone could help me with a small query?

I have recently ordered my credit files from both Experian and Equifax with a view for a mortgage application. Upon checking my credit file I have a default from July 2014 for £314. I did infact miss a couple of payments down to a break up but quickly got back on track managing to overlook this seemingly small amount! I received a letter at my new address from a DCA and cleared the balance immediately knowing this could impact my financial future. I have called Very to check the details of this default and it turns out they sent a notice of default to my old address where my mail was not forwarded on :T. In retrospect I should have ensured that I had updated them with the new address details and this would never have been an issue .

My question is - Is there anyway I can get this Default removed from my credit file?

If not, How badly will a £314 settled Default affect my chances of gaining a mortgage?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Further to this; I have double checked my account with Very and it appears I had infact updated my address with them yet the default notice was still sent to my old address so I didnt actually have any notice of the intended default.

Do i have any leg to stand on with this?

How did you let them know about your new address?

If you're sure (and can demonstrate) that Very had your new address at the time they sent the notice of intention to file a default, you should make a formal complaint saying that you were not afforded the opportunity to put your account in order before the default was filed due to their error.

Technically the default is probably valid anyway because you still didn't pay. It's well worth a complaint though.

    As Matttye says.

Also, defaults shouldn't really be issued until 3 months. How many payments did you miss?
